-15 near AZ-Utah border passed for toll road plan

PHOENIX (AP) - Interstate 15 at the Arizona-Utah border isn't being considered for a federal toll road pilot program at this time.
   
Federal Highway Administration officials told the Arizona Department of Transportation on Friday that I-15 wasn't selected for the program that allows for tolling of existing roadways to support necessary improvements or reconstruction.
   
The FHA selected North Carolina, Virginia and Missouri. But officials say if one of those states drop from the program, the I-15 corridor may be reconsidered.
   
ADOT looked at the toll road program as one option for funding $250 million in bridge repairs and pavement improvements to I-15.
   
Mohave County officials say tolls could cost motorists about $3 and truckers even more to drive through the section of I-15 that cuts through the Arizona Strip.
