MURRAY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Fast drivers near Fashion Place Mall in Murray are getting a taste of the Speed Zapper Monday. A worried mother who lives in a neighborhood there asked ABC 4 to take action to slow speeders on her street. So we sent ABC 4's Brian Carlson armed with the zapper, and police with a ticket book.

Some drive too fast, others out of control. Jamie Yulibarri said she's worried about the speeders on her street in Murray.

“I'm scared that one day, one of these kids is going to get hit,” said Yulibarri.

She said kids are constantly up and down 725 East heading to school or going to the park. And drivers, who speed over the 25 mile-an-hour limit, pose a real threat.

“I've actually seen a car lose control come up onto the lawn and it was actually my lawn they came up onto, if I was any closer to the sidewalk they would've hit us,” she said.

So we sync'd up Speed Zapper with Murray police. And you know what comes next…

“Do you know why we want to talk to ya?” Reporter Brian Carlson asked.

“I don't. Well, I do kinda,” a driver said.

“I thought you might,” said Carlson.

“Here we go, and there's another one right here," Carlson said.

Some speeders were a bit camera shy, but not one driver. He was more than happy to explain his habits behind the wheel.

‘I drive the way I think it's going to be safe. I've got a pretty good field of vision here. I could've stopped if there was an emergency,” he said. “I've seen people go down this road 50 mph and those are the ones I really worry about.”

“Does that make your 35 mph any better though?” Carlson asked.

“No,” he said.

But when Carlson and the driver finished talking he was singing a different tune.

“You think you'll slow down this time?” asked Carlson.

“Absolutely,” the driver said.

“That's the magic question uh?” Carlson asked.

“Absolutely,” he said.

That's a big relief to our worried mom.

“I'm hoping people will realize people need to be doing 25 mph down the street,” said Yulibarri.

If you need Brian to zap speeders in your neighborhood, let Brian know about it. Just go to the Speed Zapper section of abc4.com. Tell him about the problem. And he’ll zap ‘em.
