SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) ABC 4 is taking action to a help a South Salt Lake woman who said speeders in her neighborhood refuse to slow down. Brian Carlson is bringing the Speed Zapper to her street, and confronting the drivers ignoring the speed limit.

“Watch this guy right here. 35 miles an hour, 36 miles an hour, in a 25 mile-an-hour zone. We’re going to zap ‘em,” said Reporter Brian Carlson.

When we took action, we saw it.

"Do you know how fast you were going?” Carlson asked a driver.

“Around 35,” the driver said.

“I zapped you going 39 miles an hour," Carlson replied.

“They come really fast down that road,” said Carolyn Sutton, South Salt Lake resident.

Sutton said she sees it everyday.

“They need to slow down,” she said.

Sutton tells ABC 4 speeders on Carlisle Park Lane in South Salt Lake not only endanger people who live there, they just don't care. They've even told her so.

“He backed up and he said ‘What?’ And I said ‘Just slow down,’ and he said ‘Are you a cop?’ and I said ‘No.’ And he says ‘Until a cop tells me that ain't gonna happen lady,” Sutton said.

We aren't cops, but we grabbed the Speed Zapper and stood up to drivers going too fast.

“Do you know how fast the speed limit is?” Carlson asked one driver.

“Yah it's 25,” the driver said.

“So why were you going 37?” Carlson asked another driver.

“I'm late for school,” the other driver said.

“You think that makes it better,” Carlson asked in reply.

“No. I don't justify it, I just do it,” the other driver said.

“I usually follow the limit,” said a fourth driver.

“Usually just not today?” Carlson asked. “You have nothing to say?”

“No,” the fourth driver said.

Each speeder had their own excuse.

“I'd say 35 is better than 60,” said a fifth driver.

And their own comfort level talking about it.

“I was late to work and being careless,” said a sixth driver.

“Are you typically late to work and careless?” Carlson asked the sixth driver.

“Yes I’ll be honest,” the sixth driver said.

But Sutton is hoping all of them will start obeying the limit.

“I'll slow down. It's that simple,” said the fifth driver.

“Are you really going to do it?” Carlson asked.

“Sure. I want to be safe sure,” said the fifth driver.
