CLINTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Clinton may only be a small town near Hill Air Force Base, but people who live there tell ABC 4 they have a big problem with speeders.
Neighbors are worried, cops tell us they deal with it everyday, and so Brian Carlson is bringing in the Speed Zapper to take the pedal off the metal.
It doesn't matter if kids are out, people are on bikes, or trying to cross the street -
“It's kind of scary it really is,” said Jennifer Schindel, Clinton resident.
- Schindel said drivers on 1000 West in Clinton, will speed anyway.
“We've had so many times where me and my mom have almost been hit by cars, Schindel said.
Schindel emailed us and told us about the problem, so we brought in the cops and the Speed Zapper.
Together we zapped drivers who were no stranger to speeding.
“So it seems like you've got some experience getting pulled over?” Reporter Brian Carlson asked one driver.
“Yah, I got a ticket in Roy last year, said the driver. “It cost me $200.”
Not everyone was as camera friendly as that woman, and not anyone close to the worst police tell us they've seen on 1000 West, a 30 mile an hour street.
“We've written them up to 40 and 50 miles an hour over the speed limit,” said Chief Bill Chilson, Clinton Police Dept.
Police said many drivers here are aware they're breaking the law.
“They know, they know, they outright know they're speeding,” said Chilson.
But like our speeder friend, maybe haven't considered how they're putting others at risk.
“What do you think would happen if you actually hit one of these kids on this street?” Carlson asked the driver.
“God, I don't think I could ever forgive myself that'd be horrible,” she said.
Schindel hopes that lesson will stick with our driver and all the others she said she sees speeding here on a daily basis.
“I hope that people listen and realize that it is dangerous and what you're doing is dangerous,” said Schindel.
If you need Brian to zap speeders in your neighborhood, let Brian know about it. Just go to the Speed Zapper section of abc4.com. Tell him about the problem. And he’ll zap ‘em.
