Shaunaru, as much as I understand your comment, six-year-olds dont usually bully someone because they feel inferior about themselves. Elementary grade kids dont usually learn self-esteem issue at that young. The problem is that kids those ages haven't learned to use their "social filters" or common decencies yet. They just mock or laugh at what they think is funny. They dont ready understand what the bullying or beating up does. Yes, in my opinion the surgery is quite extreme. Teach him to appreciate who he is, because eventually we all change how we look anyway! I think the parents of, and the bullies themselves, should be talked to about the effects of bullying. Tel them how it is making him feel! Open dialogue! STOP GIVING IN TO THE BULLIES, SURGERY OUR CHANGING THE PERSON IS WHAT THEY WANT!!!

I can see the logic & truth of the comments from both wfrancom and dodoking. It was my younger brother who brought my parents' dinner time conversation about the need to seek plastic surgery to reduce the size of my nose, to our school. Only it came out in the form of, "Hey, Witchy Nose those warts are growing back!" or "Oh, it started raining outside, can we stand under your nose to keep dry?" and on and on. Of course, the boys in my grade took no time at all to realize what great fun could be had with this new information and soon I couldn't go any place in school without hearing the nose "jokes." Fortunately, the dysfunctions of my family life had taught me that if I displayed a weakness, if I allowed someone to see that they had succeeded in hurting me, all was lost. So I had learned to be the first to make up the most extreme, most bizarre jokes about myself, all delivered with a small smile and cockily raised eyebrow and, if I had been able to ignore the hurt & anger and keep my mind clear, I could usually finish with a jab or two delivered into the heart and/or mind of the original tormenter - and then I could flash a large smile as I turned and walked away. Bullies are usually picking on someone because they feel inferior about themselves and they want negative attention focused on someone other than themselves. If their intended victim doesn't act like a wounded victim, or worse yet, if the intended victim can make fun of themselves (which proves that the bully is unable to hurt them) and then turn the tables & make the bully a victim now, the bully will not want to risk such an outcome again and will leave that person alone. I also believe that teachers, bus drivers, any appropriate adult needs to get involved and deal with the bully (do not take the victim off the bus, out of class, etc. they should not be punished, they didn't do anything wrong). Make sure the bully's parents have to drive them & they understand why so they won't be sympathizing w/bully

That is terrible. Bless his heart! A kindergartener being beat up and bullied? That makes me sick. Bless this doctor for doing what he does. And bless Carter and his family. Keep your head up, buddy

I was a victim of bullying, and I can say to you that those years spent dealing with the torment DO have a serious impact on the direction of the rest of the victims life. This isn't vanity in the least. Rather, the parents are helping to secure a better future for their son, which in my mind.....priceless.

Kids have been made fun of for having big ears and egg shaped heads for years. I remember when I was little and the kids in school made comments like that. I can not believe this kids parents are putting this 6 years old child who is not even fully grown into his body yet through surgery. This is just flat out ridiculous! This child still has a lot of growing to do... Surgery is not they way to handle, prevent, the bullying of a 6 year old child.
