I like the part at the end of the story that says "eduate yourself on the risks". That is the best way to learn anything, yourself. Not relying on someone else. That was Mariann's first problem, next to most likely her genetic predisposition to melanoma. Every room with a tanning bed is required by law to post the risks. It's clearly stated in black and white. This story probably took "months" of undercover investigation because the reporter had a hard time coming up with enough information for a story.

Tanning beds are scientifically proven to cause melanoma. UVA rays cause you to tan while damaging your DNA, it is not risk free. It doesn't matter if MaryAnn had a gene or got cancer from a tanning bed. The point is, we should all have straight forward information about our products. Risks for using a product should not be covered up just so someone make a buck off the gullible. Businesses should be accountable for the information they give their customers, especially when their product can give you cancer. We live in America, we have the right to choose, but we should have the truth so we can make informed decisions or we are no better off.

Yes, what conlusive proof does Ms. Gerber have that her melanoma was a result of a tanning bed? Shame on ABC for not digging deeper for the facts relating to UV exposure, where are the facts from the other side. Of course a BS approach, undercover, leading questions? Maybe ABC should do some of this same undercover work in the dermotologists practices utilizing these same tanning beds. Let's see what the responses might be from them as to the effectivness and safe usage of their beds when unaware of the use of hidden cameras. Here we have a young lady with a chip on her shoulder and she has to find something or someone to blame. ABC, do your job and investigate from all angles, not just one side Maryann, Please? Move on, Maybe a real job?

I would like to know how Maryann can possibly say that it was because of the tanning bed that she came down with Melanoma. My bet is that she would have gotten it with or without tanning. "One of the biggest myths is that we get too much melanama from being out in the sun. Melanoma is a disease of indoor sedentary office workers" DR Marc Sorenson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur3etNVyBMk
