SOUTH SALT LAKE (ABC 4 News) - A man was arrested and jailed on Monday after he tried to rob a convenience store at knife-point, only to be sent running for cover when the store owner pulled a gun, authorities said.
Luis Guiterrez Gonzales, 30, allegedly entered the convenience store located on 3900 South Main Street in South Salt Lake, pulled a knife and demanded money. An eyewitness spotted the man pacing in front of the store just minutes earlier, officials said.
The store owner responded to the suspect's demand by pulling a handgun and forcing him to set the knife on the counter. Gonzales subsequently walked out the front door.
A short time later, a police officer in the area spotted Gonzales at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. Because he matched the robber's description, Gonzales was placed under arrest inside the restaurant.
No one was hurt during the robbery attempt. Gonzales was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail and charged with aggravated robbery.
