Winds blowing in a storm for Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Winds are gusting over 50 mph in many locations across Utah ahead of a cold front that will enter the state Thursday night. The western half of Utah is seeing the highest wind gusts and travelers on I-80 west of Salt Lake City and US-6 west of Oak City should be prepared for wind gusts near or greater than 60 mph.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the entire western half of Utah.  Winds will be sustained 25-35 mph with gusts exceeding 45 mph until 11 PM Thursday night.  Also, a high wind warning is in effect for the Great Salt Lake mountains and valleys as well as the Wasatch Front until 11 PM with wind gusts expected to exceed 60 mph. Wind gusts of near 70 mph in Tooele Valley and 60 mph in the Salt Lake Valley have already been seen.

A cold front is timed to moved into Salt Lake City between 9 PM and 11 PM Thursday which will bring unseasonably cool weather for the weekend.
