PAYSON, Utah - (ABC 4 News) - What are Payson High School officials doing about a play caught on tape?

The video shows Payson High School basketball Player, # 44, knee Timpanogos player AJ Coombs in the groin. Whether it was intentional is in question, but Matthew Timm, after seeing the video, thinks it was on purpose.

Matthew Timm, Payson: "When you're going to run, you usually bring your knee up and out in front of you, and this kid brought his knee up," Matthew explains.

The Payson player apologized to Coombs after the game, telling him he didn't mean it.

"He made a bad choice, it happens to all of us," Coombs said about the incident.

But is that enough?

"As obvious and as blatant as that was, I'd say that's probably insufficient," said Timm.

No one at Payson High would tell me what was being done. Nebo School District Spokesperson Lana Hisky said the school is investigating, and appropriate action would be taken. She said that the district strives to teach high principles and good sportsmanship.

Timm thinks whether some might think the play is an accident, doesn't even matter.

"I had done so in a game, unintentionally kneed someone and hurt them pretty bad, and I got suspended for 2 games."

"For an accident?" asked ABC 4's Lauren Johnson.

"For an accident, yeah, so that was pretty obviously intentional, so he should probably be out for 3 or 4 games," said Timm.

Payson resident Don Dixon just hopes it's properly addressed.

"I think the players should have confidence they can play sports without feeling assaulted," said Dixon.

And so it continues……… Here is just another embarrassing example of ABC4’s irresponsible agenda to bully and debase the character of a minor! Tell us, Lauren, why should we consider “Matthew Timm a credible expert? Does he work with the Utah High School Athletics Association? Does he work for Timpanogas High School Administration? Is he with Nebo School District? Did he really even play basketball other than Junior Jazz? This has gone way to far. I think the author of this story actually took Mr. Dixon’s comments out of context. I believe the last quote sums it up pretty accurately. #44, should have the confidence that he can play the sport of basketball without the feeling of being assaulted by KTVX, AJ Coombs parents, or the court of public opinion that has been mislead by this entire fiasco. Leave the kid out of the press; let the administrations take care of it!

This is news?!? Do you really need a story this badly that you have to go after a young kid like this? Not only did you exaggerate what happened in the first place ("had to be carried off the court?") but now you're not content to let this go? Your news organization should be ashamed of how you've sensationalized something just to create a story. Classic modern day news: Headline: Bully Knees Competition in Crotch!! We can't prove it, we don't know this kid or the extent of his character, but let's ASSUME he did it on purpose, tell only one side of the story, and try him in the court of popular public opinion. Cut to the experts: random people on the street?!? Investigative journalism at its best! Are you kidding me?! Really?! Even if you did try to talk to the Payson kid now, or anyone that really knows him, it's too late! The way you've treated him, if I were him, I wouldn't give you the time of day. You proclaimed him guilty and then had the "experts" back you up! Is there any wonder why his school won't talk to you? You can't and will never prove that this kid did this on purpose, but you don't care, cause it'll make a great sensational story! Let's make the kid sorry! Let's get justice! Punishment? It's the local yahoos at ABC News that should be punished. You're the real bully here.

So now KTVX(ABC) has tried the video tape in the court of public opinion, has decided there is something wrong, and is requesting a punishment? I think it is about time for the family of #44 to sue KTVX for harrasment and defamation. There are people in place who take care of these things. This type of stuff happens all the time, accidents happen. Officials, school officials etc. Ask Timpanogos high school administrators whether they felt something was out of line. Oh wait, the reporter forgot to even talk to them, let along Payson. Great reporting!

Ok why should #44 be punished he did it on accident, yeah the sports pledge says he will play fair, and he will be sportsmen like, what more do u want him to do he said sorry, are you really going to punish a high schooler for playing the sport he loves. Aj was coming in to close and 44 just tried to get around him, If you would watch the whole game Timp Gave it right back to them. ABC 4 news doesn’t know how to broadcast anything of course there office was closed, you called them at 8:00 and expect them to still be there. Oh and “you don’t raise your knee to run” last time I checked 44 wasn’t a penguin. If you want to see someone fun wit out raising their knee go watch “March of the penguin” that should give you a good idea to run, without raising your knee
