PROVO, Utah (AP) - A former Mapleton City controller accused of theft did not appear at an arraignment in court and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
Jeannie Bell is charged with one second-degree felony count of theft for allegedly buying stamps and gift cards on behalf of the city, then selling them on the auction Web site eBay from January 2007 to May 2009.
Mapleton Police Chief Dean Pettersson says Bell's husband called police Tuesday and said he hadn't see her since Monday. Pettersson says the 48-year-old Bell is listed as a missing person.
Bell was due for arraignment Thursday in Provo's 4th District Court. When she did not show up, Judge James Taylor issued a warrant.
Pettersson says Bell had a car with her, but police have found it. He would not say where.
