SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - It's a warning for those who frequent a tanning salon. A Sandy woman found herself victim to a voyeur and wants to share her story so it doesn't happen to others.
“It shook me. It really shook me” says Mya-Lisa Ludwig. She had just finished her tanning session at the Sandy Gold’s Gym Sun center and getting dressed when she noticed something that horrified her. She says, “I looked up and saw a video camera phone aimed right at me over the wall.”
The walls to each tanning room don't go all the way to ceiling for ventilation purposes. Ludwig says the voyeur stood on a chair to reach over the 10 foot partition, “I felt like I was in a private moment and in a private setting and I just felt all of a sudden not only invaded but unprotected.”
Salon employees kept the voyeur there until police arrived. Ludwig says she felt like it was her responsibility to press charges and to tell her story so this doesn't happen to anyone else. She says, “All I could think of was how many times he's done this before, how many other girls or women he's done this to before?”
We spoke with employees at Sun Center tanning who say they are taking extra precautions since this incident. Salon Manager Alyssa Braun says, “We can see who goes in which room and try to put in sections, women in one area, guys in the other, now especially we've taken extra precaution in it because we don't want any incident like that again.”
Sandy Police is not commenting on this case because no formal charges have been filed. Ludwig says, “I know what I saw and he admitted later that he was doing that.”
Authorities urge everyone to be aware of their surroundings, know who’s around them, and report any suspicious activity.
