SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - You won't find a quarterback controversy at Utah, however, you might find an issue or two at wide receiver. While the Utes do have a proven guy in senior wide receiver Jereme Brooks, the rest of the group is still a question mark. Then again, that's been the case the past few years for Utah and don't forget, that question mark casting a shadow over the WR's is usually long gone by the end of the season.
"That's how it always is," Brooks said. "When it's a new season everybody says the receivers is a question and who's going to be the go-to guy. Everything will work itself out and we'll be great."
"They're taking steps forward each and every day," head coach Kyle Whittingham said. "Jereme Brooks is the leader of that group. Luke Matthews is doing a nice job and so is Shaky Smithson so we do have some vets but the young guys show a lot of promise."
"We have a lot of guys who can do a lot of damage on the football field," junior wide receiver and newcomer Mo Lee added. "All of us are working very hard and we're so passionate and everybody is young which makes it a lot better."
So what does starting sophomore quarterback Jordan Wynn think about his receivers?
"There's some athletic guys, there's some fast guys and there's some smart guys," Wynn said. "I mean, we've got everything spaced out and with that first game it will be good to see who steps up."
The Utes open up their season on Thursday, September 2nd when they welcome in the Pittsburgh Panthers to Rice-Eccles Stadium.
