SALT LAKE CITy (ABC 4 Sports) - It was 10 years ago to this day that the 2002 Winter Olympic Games kicked off in Utah.
"There are quite a few fans from 2002 who honestly have never let it go and it's still going with them," said Richard Bezemer, the event organizer who is part of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation.
Tonight the Olympic cauldron will once again be burning bright to commemorate one of the greatest moments in State history.
"It was outstanding," said Chris Crowley, a volunteer in the 2002 games. "Absolutely unbelievable."
"In my honest opinion, it was one of the most supremely organized and best run Olympic games I've ever been associated with," added Bezemer.
The cauldron will only be lit for 15 minutes. After that, a spotlight will shoot a beam of light into the sky the next 17 days. Tonight's ceremony will last about 30 minutes but it's sure to bring back some great memories.
"That's exactly what the aim of tonight is," said Crowley. "It's to bring back those memories and evoke those emotions."
And those emotions have Utahns craving another shot at hosting the Olympic games.
"What city wouldn't want to host an Olympic game," Bezemer asked.
"I live here...I would love to see it back here," said Crowley.
