SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – About two weeks before the new FrontRunner line from Salt Lake City to Provo officially starts service ABC 4 News got a sneak peak at what passengers can expect.

It's the first time people other than UTA brass are taking the FrontRunner train south. The Utah Transit Authority is showing off its $850 million gem and hoping to get people excited about their new choice in transportation.

Erick Smith rides the train to Salt Lake from Syracuse for work and expects many of his co-workers will soon do the same. "I know a lot of people I work with live down in Utah County and south end of Salt Lake valley and they're planning on when it opens to try it,” said Smith.

There are seven stations between Salt Lake City and Provo, but the entire ride only takes about 40 minutes. It’s a great alternative for those commuters looking to get off the road and get a little rest while someone else drives.

Smith said, "It's relaxing. I get work done. I don't have to deal with traffic. It's great."

FrontRunner from Provo to Salt Lake City opens for regular service December 10th, but the public can try out the new line Saturday, December 8th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for free. All you have to do is bring a non-perishable foot item to benefit the Utah Food Bank.
