ROY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A tanker crash at 5600 South in Roy caused a traffic headache for drivers all day Wednesday. All lanes were re-opened by late Wednesday.

At about 4:20 a.m. a semi pulling two tanks filled with fuel crashed into the median on I-15, bursting into flames.

UHP troopers say the driver fell asleep and over corrected after working a long shift.

He was on his way from Woods Cross to Ogden when he crashed.

Crews closed both northbound and southbound lanes of travel, and authorities said there's a good chance Northbound lanes would remain closed throughout most of Wednesday.

UHP troopers said the freeway could be closed until 3:00 p.m. or later.

The Utah Department of Transportation later reported all lanes on southbound I-15 reopened before 10:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, UDOT estimated that it would take at least until 12:00 p.m. to re-open northbound I-15.

Northbound traffic was re-routed off I-15 at 650 South in Clearfield, to SR-126.

While traffic began to move southbound on I-15 via the one open lane, UDOT said that a viable alternate option for southbound motorists remained by taking I-84 East in Riverdale (Exit 340) to US-89 (Exit 87), and then going southbound to rejoin I-15 in Farmington.

Northbound through traffic on I-15 was also encouraged to consider detouring via US-89 to I-84 at South Ogden/Uintah, and from there to rejoin northbound I-15 in Riverdale.

Wreckers eventually removed the crashed semi-truck from the northbound lanes.

The truck, loaded with diesel fuel, leaked on to the interstate, and hazmat crews eventually cleaned up the spill.
