LOGAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) A Utah Highway Patrol Trooper is giving $30,000 in gifts and prizes to the "honoring heroes foundation”. It helps the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

His donations wouldn’t be possible without the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

She gave him the prizes for helping to save three children trapped in an up-side-down car in the cold Logan River New Year’s Eve.

Ellen invited trooper Phil Rawlinson and several people rolled a car right side up out of the river.

She gave each person who played a roll in the rescue prizes including a flat screen TV, plan tickets, vacation packages, gift cards and plane trips.

Rawlinson says he would like to keep the gifts, but Utah law bans officers from taking any gifts for their work.
