LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Utah Highway Patrol trooper's vehicle was hit during a crash investigation near Layton early Monday morning.

Troopers responded to reports of a car that had slid off the road in South Layton on I-15.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered two separate single-car crashes.

According to UHP troopers, the road was icy.

Troopers say a maroon Plymouth had lost control and had slid off the road, coming to a stop about 75 feet off the road into the construction work area.

A green Toyota had also lost control, hit the wall on the left, slid and came to rest in the dirt to the right of the roadway.

During the UHP investigation, troopers say a green Mazda pickup lost control and slid into the left median work area and then pulled back into traffic and was struck by a black Nissan Xterra.

Troopers say the driver of the Mazda pressed hard on the accelerator and went off the road, striking the left front side of the Trooper's patrol car, pushing it further off the road.

According to troopers, the driver continued to hold the accelerator while the left rear tire spun on the asphalt creating a large cloud of smoke, finally shutting down his vehicle troopers began checking for injuries.

The Davis County Sheriff's office handled the 3 car crash investigation, including the UHP vehicle.

The trooper was out of his patrol car at the time of the crash, and there were no injuries reported.
