MIDVALE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A toddler was found wandering Center Street nude just after midnight Wednesday while his mother was at a local pub.

According to Unified Police, the 2-year-old boy had walked approximately two blocks south to Center Street before officers found him.

The mother, 22-year-old Natalie Meza, was at Old Towne Tavern, a neighborhood bar about two blocks west of the apartment.

Meza told police she bathed the child before putting him to sleep. She thought he would be okay unsupervised.

Sherri Schofield is neighbor to the woman and boy.

“If you’re a mother, you don’t leave your child sleeping and go to the bar,”
Schofield said.

Neighbors said they had previously seen the boy walking without clothes in public. Others said Meza routinely walks around the streets or in the alley without her child.

Meza is charged with child abuse and endangering a child. She is being held at the Salt Lake County Jail.

The boy is under the care of Utah’s Division of Child and Family Services.

I cant believe the nerve of this woman, I almost lost my son Friday because a man hit him with a truck and this woman goes out to get drunk while her baby is unsupervised, oh no... Not a chance in you know where would I ever do that. You carry these babies in your womb for 9 months only to neglect them, hopefully she doesnt have anymore children. This is just terrible, that people can be so dumb and ignorant.

Funny how tearful the neighbor women were to just HEAR about it, yet mom in question waltzed off to get drunk like it was no big deal. Sad.

I for one do not condone such behavior. That being said, its obvious to anyone with an addiction that-that is what addicts do. They're not thinking, to someone who doesn't have an addiction this type of behavior isn't what they would do. Addicts do unspeakable things. Things that when they aren't influenced by their addiction they wouldn't ever think or act upon. I am by no means making an excuse, I am just making a statement from an ex addict.

What kind of mother thinks her baby is ok unsupervised while she goes to the bar?!? Or any other place for that matter? This poor baby could have been killed. She should be more than ashamed of herself! If the bar was more important than her baby she should have thought about that before bringing him into the world. Such a shame, just a good thing someone found him before he was seriously injured.
