SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – There’s good news for frequent fliers in Salt Lake. A new Transportation Security Administration program will allow some people to skip long security lines. Salt Lake International is one of several airports testing out this new plan.

Many of us have waited through long security lines at the airport. “It is the most stressful part of my travel going through security,” said Harrison Powell, a frequent flyer.

There is hope, however, for those who travel often on a plane. A new pre-screening program is supposed to speed things up. “Passengers can provide more information about themselves, and TSA can pre-screen these individuals and allow them to be eligible for expedited screening,” said Lorie Dankers, a TSA spokesperson.

“I fly 12 to 15 times a year and it will make it much nicer. You don't have to take off your belt, take out your carry-on liquids, and you don't have to take a laptop out,” said Dwayne Harris, who is visiting.

Before you get too excited, only select passengers will get to avoid the hassle at the TSA checkpoint, including those uncomfortable pat-downs. Those who get first dibs are frequent flyers and government employees.

Utah's Office of Economic Development believes this will encourage people to fly more. “From a tourist perspective this is very friendly and inviting,” said Deputy Director, Tracie Cayford.

It's a sigh of relief for those people who won't have to organize themselves all over again before boarding. “Usually people have 2 boxes. I have to have at least five, including laptops, electronics, shoes, bags,” said Powell.

They have the gall to brag about allowing special treatment elite flyers while the peasants still get groped and irradiated. If you are invited to participate you pay a fee and give them all of your financial information even though TSA has lost personal information of their employees and accidentally published sensitive procedures. For this you MIGHT get expedited screening but could still be scanned and groped. What a bargain. This program smacks of racism and government extortion. TSA is saying that some (wealthy) people are "more equal" than the rest of us. No civil rights implications here This shows that the TSA security theater is gratuitous harassment of passengers and Congress must demand that TSA adopt sensible and respectful procedures for everyone, not just select groups of passengers.
