ROY UTAH (ABC4 News) – A substitute teacher is under investigation for allegedly assaulting three students.
It happened yesterday at North Park Elementary School in Roy.
“The fact that we have kids hurt in the process leads us to believe that it was inappropriate,” said Weber School District spokesman Nate Taggart.
Boyd Fisher is the substitute teacher who has been working for the district for about a month. Yesterday Fisher was attempting to quiet down a class when something went wrong.
Michael Wilkes said Fisher asked him to stop spinning his dog tags that were around his neck.
“He grabbed my wrist, threw me down the stairs and dragged me to the principal's office,” said Wilkes.
Another student tried to stop Fisher and ended up with a sprained wrist and thumb.
“I was trying to talk to him and he grabbed my wrist,” said Tristin Rivera. “Then he yanked me and started dragging me to the office.”
ABC4 NEWS found Fisher outside his Farr West home. “I don't know what to say,” the 60-year old Fisher said. “I'm not sure what went on either.”
Fisher said this was his seventh time that he had substituted for the district and had never experienced any problems. “I should have stayed home yesterday,” he said.
District officials said every employee that works in their schools goes through a background check. Fisher cleared his.
“We had no indications that there would be any problems with this individual (Fisher),” Taggart said. “If there were any indications we wouldn't have put him on our sub list.”
Fisher was removed from the school immediately and the district is conducting an investigation. Roy Police are also investigating the allegations.
“We clearly think something happened and that merits a thorough investigation and a determination as to what criminal charges might be coming,” said police Chief Greg Whinham.
Whinham said possible charges could be child abuse or assault.
