SNOWBIRD, Utah (ABC 4 News) - It's only the third time it has happened in Snowbird's history, Monday Utahns celebrated the country's Independence on the slopes. There was just enough snow for a few hundred snow lovers to get in a final day on the white stuff.
Skiing on the fourth may seem crazy, but it's also something that rarely every happens.
Emily Moench from Snowbird puts it pretty simple, "It's the third time in the resort history we've been able to ski on the 4th of July."
Only the third time they've filled up the tram and taken people to the top of the mountain. People traded in their summer gear, for snow gear. But it wasn't just ski and boarding attire on the mountain, people were wearing speedos, bathing suits, even flags!
This is all possible thanks to the 783 inches of snow the bird saw this year. That makes 100 inches more than they have ever seen, and several ski days.
Moench said, "202 days of skiing this year, we broke another record!"
Unfortunately, this awesome ski day does mark the end of this season. The resort has high hopes for next year.
