COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Heavy rains caused flooding along some streets on the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley on Thursday.

The downpour hit around midday, causing some storm drains to back up and create large pools of standing water on the streets in Sandy, Draper, Murray and Cottonwood Heights.

Rain water accumulated in a retention pond near the Lowe's home improvement store at 9400 South 1300 East in Sandy. When the water crested near a dirt pile where a small 'Bobcat' backhoe was parked, the ground eroded away, creating a sinkhole. The tractor eventually fell into the sinkhole, where is rested upon a power conduit.

No one was hurt, and the tractor was removed from the hole. The water from the retention pond was pumped away.

According to ABC 4 Meteorologist Roland Steadman, periods of rain will most likely continue on and off for several days.
