SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A preferred route for a possible extension of the Legacy Parkway into Weber County has been chosen.

The Wasatch Front Regional Council, Utah Department of Transportation and city governments in Weber County narrowed a list of 23 possible routes for the extension to six. Those six were presented to the public and one route was selected.

The preferred alignment starts in Roy and ends near the Box Elder County border, connecting with Interstate 15 in Pleasant View.

Regional council officials say the route best balances environmental concerns and accommodates predicted growth.

The regional council and UDOT conducted a study on the North Legacy project in Davis and Weber counties in 2001, but several issues in Weber County weren't resolved.
