SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Democrats and Republicans, alike, said Attorney Scott Matheson is more than deserving, but one conservative blogger made his opposing opinion known on his site.
President Obama appointed Matheson to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals Wednesday and that did not sit well with John McCormack, blogger for the Weekly Standard.
McCormack accuses the Obama Administration of handing out favors to get the votes he needs to pass his health care bill. "Consider Congressman Matheson's record on the health care bill. He voted against the bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee back in July and again when it passed in the House in November, but now he's "undecided" on ramming the bill through congress," McCormack said on his blog. "The timing of this nomination looks suspicious."
However, political analyst, Kirk Jowers of the Hinckley Institute of Politics called the accusations ridiculous and just a case of bad timing. "The timing is horrible for the Obama administration," he said. "It's unfortunate to drop this at the center of the health care debate."
Congressman Jim Matheson's office released this statement to ABC 4.
"I will make my decision on voting on the health care reform as I have on every other substantive issue - on the merits and the effect the people of Utah's 2nd Congressional District. My brother is a well-qualified candidate with bipartisan support from the legal community, including Senator Orrin Hatch."
