SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - We are just weeks away from the Oscars, and on Friday the red carpet was rolled out for the 'Pawscars'.
The 'Pawcars' feature VIP's (very important pets). Especially Pit Bull Terrier-type dogs hoping to find new homes.
On Friday they were all dressed up with glitz and glamour, proving that dogs that sometimes get a bad rap really can be loving pets.
The shelter dressed them up in everything from top hats to tiara's to boa's to show that the dogs are just like other dogs and can be trained. "The reason we've chosen this breed is we have a lot of them at the shelter and we want people to realize that they are individuals and they have individual characteristics just like any other dog," says Shelter Operations Manager April Harris.
Several of the dogs have been nominated for 'Best Supporting Male' and "Best Lead Female'. You are invited to the shelter at 511 West 3900 South to vote for your favorite. Humans can win prizes if they vote. And, the winning dog will be sent home with a goodie bag for the adoptive family.
The shelter hopes while you are there you pick out a new best friend.
The 'Pawscars' are an event put on by Salt Lake County Animal Services and Best Friends Animal Society.
