WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Neighbors of Sierra Newbold said the arrest of a murder suspect connected to the 6-year-old’s death is an answer to their prayers.

“I can’t believe anyone would hurt a girl like that,” Linda Hunter, a neighbor, said. “I am grateful that they found him.”

Neighbors like Peggy Young are shocked Terry Lee Black, the murder suspect, lived so close to them. Young has lived in the area for 35 years.

“Now that this is resolved, he can’t do this to any more kids,” Young said.

Purple ribbons and stuffed animals remained on fences and stop sign posts Tuesday. Residents said Sierra’s murder was a heinous crime. They have faith the Newbold family will receive justice.

Black was arrested after three days after the murder for unrelated crimes. He allegedly stole a car and robbed a bank in West Jordan.

Detectives noticed Black’s clothing had debris consistent with debris around the canal where Sierra’s body was found. A positive DNA match linked Black to the murder.

“I think it was divine intervention,” Hunter added. “I think he was meant to get caught.”
