WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) - A 30-year-old West Valley City man has been charged with having two pipe bombs in a car that was being repossessed.
The Deseret News reports Michael Owens was charged this week in 3rd District Court with two second-degree felony counts of possession of an explosive device.,
According to charging documents, a tow truck driver was in the process of repossessing Owens' vehicle on July 17 when Owens asked if he could remove some possessions from the car.
As Owens put items inside a backpack, he allegedly became "combative" with the driver, who decided to drive away with the backpack still inside the car.
Owens was arrested July 18 after the pipe bombs, a ski mask, .40-caliber ammunition and a military bullet-proof vest were later found in the car.
