WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) - A West Jordan teen has been charged with killing his cat because he was frustrated with bad grades.

Third District Court records show 19-year-old Daniel Arakaki is charged with torture of a companion animal. He remains held on $5,000 bond for the third-degree felony.

Charging documents indicate Arakaki called 911 on Nov. 19, 2011, to report he had killed his cat and needed police to remove it. The responding officer says Arakaki told him he was upset over poor grades and had been abusing his cat by punching it in the back and neck until it died.

The Deseret News reports Arakaki also has been charged with misdemeanor domestic violence stemming from an incident last week.

It wasn't immediately clear if Arakaki had an attorney.
