COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Cottonwood Heights man is accused of shooting his gun into his neighbor's Santa Fe Apartment complex unit Monday night.
No one was hurt, but the bullet zipped through a child's room eventually lodging in a small toy, according to Sgt. Mark Askerlund of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department.
Lori Moran who lives next to the shooting didn't know about this until an ABC 4 crew informed her. She says she walkedk to the alleged shooters home moments before the incident. "I went up there and was complaining about noise and you know they were intoxicated," Moran said.
Loud music coming from the alleged shooters apartment apparently muffled the gunshot.
She's upset Hawkins wasn't arrested and booked into jail. "Shooting a firearm in an apartment and having it go through someone else's wall-- wreckless endangerment that's it? I don't know I'm sorry that gets me mad," said Moran.
Police say friends of Hawkins admitted to smoking marijuana moments before he allegedly fired a 9 mm bullet into his neighbors home. Askerlund says he appeared intoxicated.
"I think it's incredibly important that if you're going to drink you should drink responsibly, whether you're behind the wheel of a car or handling a firearm," said Bryce Miller who lives near the shooting.
