EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah County (ABC 4 News) - Tracie Greco has her horse back.
They were reunited Sunday.
What makes this remarkable is not so much the reunion itself as what made it possible.
Tracie sold Mesa, a 19-year old quarter house back in 2005. She regretted it almost from the day she closed the deal. Tracie says she tried to follow up afterward to make sure that everything was okay, but could not get a hold of the new owner.
Then this past April, she was browsing the “adoption” section of the website for the SPCA in Monterey, California. She was horrified by what she found. Pictured was an emaciated horse that she recognized as Mesa. Mesa had been rescued in September of last year. She was in generally poor shape and had lost more than 300 pounds.
Tracie knew she had to bring Mesa home. After contacting the SPCA, the organization waved its usual adoption fees and Sunday morning Mesa arrived in a horse trailer at her old home in Eagle Mountain.
Tracie was relieved that Mesa had gained back a lot of the weight she’d lost. She said, “The SPCA really did a good job putting the weight back on her.” She knows that Mesa will never be saddled again – her riding days are over. But Tracie says that doesn’t matter. Tracie brought her back for one reason: so Mesa could have a comfortable retirement cared for by someone who loves her. “I’m elated. It’s nice to see her looking happy.”
