SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Court records say a Burmese refugee charged with beating a 7-year-old girl to death has rejected plea negotiations and is asking for a trial.

An evidence hearing will start Monday for four days for Escar Met on charges of child kidnapping and aggravated murder.

Hser Ner Moo, another Burmese refugee, disappeared at her South Salt Lake apartment complex more than four years ago.

Police say they found the girl's body the next day inside Met's apartment.

Met has denied the charges in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court.

His lawyers say he's been confused by court proceedings that have been conducted with an interpreter.
