SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Prosecutors are seeking a gag order in the capital murder case filed against a Utah Army veteran accused in the fatal shooting of a police officer.
Weber County prosecutors say in court papers that a judge should limit the scope of public statements allowed by attorneys working on Matthew David Stewart's case.
Stewart is charged in Ogden's 2nd District Court with one count of capital murder, seven counts of attempted aggravated murder, and marijuana cultivation for the Jan. 4 shootout during a drug raid at his home.
Weber-Morgan Narcotics Task Force Agent Jared Francom was killed in the shooting. Five other officers were injured.
Stewart is being held in jail. A hearing is set for March 19.
A judge has not yet ruled on the petition for a gag order.
