I live in Orem and have waited nearly seven years to get fiber to my home. I understand that there is installed fiber one city block away on three sides of my subdivision. Lindon in on the 4th side and is built out. Why should I have to pay taxes for something that was promised to be installed by now and it not. On top of that, they are asking for a two year commitment of a two year fee to pay for fiber installed at my home. When I call Utopia, they don't know when the fiber will be in my area and tell me to call Orem. The people at Orem do not answer my calls. This tells me that no one anywhere knows what is going on, OR, they are too ashamed to give the bad news. I would also like to know WHO in our Orem City Government is keeping a check on Utopia so that we are not being surprised by "We only have 30 days before we are broke". Orem City would like to raise taxes to cover a short fall to Utopia, someone had to know this was coming up, especially when they knew that few people were signing up for services in the few areas that were getting fiber. I have been a very strong supporter of the fiber concept.... Now, I am not only loosing interest, but considering joining those who think that Utopia is not in our best interest. Is there anyone out there that can tell me if or when fiber will in the Kirks Fruit Ranch Subdivision? I really need fiber in my diet, but if it is not going to happen in my life time, that should be clear to me too. Come on people come clean and be honest with me.

What you need to make clearer is that UTOPIA is not a private company that is forcing Orem to pay. It is the creation of Orem and the other UTOPIA cities to bring fiber infrastructure. UTOPIA, then, is an extension of Orem; comparing it to the fire department may not be 100% correct, but it's not incorrect.
