SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A massive fire took place Friday morning at a sawdust company in Salt Lake City. Firefighters struggled to control the flames, that rippled just hours before opening. It started right after 1:00 a.m. at Pioneer Sawdust Company complex, located at 500 South 2300 West.

Fire had been raging for more than four hours and fire crews got calls from people passing along the road, which allowed a quick response. It took more than 50 firefighters to contain the flames, since there weren't enough people to do the job. The fire destroyed nearly everything in its path.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesperson Scott Freitag said, "It appears though that, right now, all the buildings in this property have received significant fire damage."

Crews didn't know what caused the fire, but they did believe it was suspicious, since the building started burning about 6 to 7 hours after the last person went home the night before.

No one was on the building at the time. Crews also said they were still fighting the flames into the morning.
