WASHINGTON TERRACE, Utah (ABC 4 News) David Affleck said,” He was dead; I mean he was essentially dead.” Affleck is a cardiovascular surgeon at Ogden Regional Medical Center.

He’s talking about the injury David Morris sustained a month ago from a crash on Interstate 15 near Kaysville. The Clinton man says he got confused in a construction zone and his car suddenly hit a concrete barrier going 55-miles-per hour.

Doctors say Morris hit his steering wheel so hard a part of his heart blew out. Affleck said,” It was like you took a balloon and pop.”

The trauma team at the hospital repaired Morris’ heart but it wasn't easy because of silver dollar size hole in his right atrium. The hospital's computer estimated Morris' probability of survival at 0.0034 percent.

Sheila Garvey said,” Somebody forgot to tell him he's supposed to be dead. He should be dead you know he died three times.” Garvey was one of many the trauma surgeons on duty that day. She says everything had to go as planned for Morris to beat the odds.

Now recovering at the Mt. Ogden Health and Rehabilitation Center Morris is called, The Miracle Man."  Morris said.” Because of the diligence and the crew that worked on me, and kept working on me, and didn't give up, I survived.”

Doctors say Morris suffered some neurological damage and has trouble breathing. However, they say his recovery is going well.
