SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A Texas couple is being allowed to return home after being questioned by authorities.
The Alonsos were wanted after their daughter disappeared Sunday.
Authorities became suspicious after 19-year old Danielle Alonso left suddenly from a home in Holladay where she was staying.
Detectives with the Salt Lake County sheriff’s office learned her parents may have been upset after she joined the LDS church.
A room mate called 911 Sunday concerned that her parents who are from Texas took her against her will.
Danielle was found safe at the parent’s home in Rockport Texas.
Her parents returned to Salt Lake to be interviewed by detectives while Danielle remained in Texas.
After six hours, the parents were allowed to return to Texas and for now, no charges are being filed.
“I don’t think there’s any evidence of a crime,” said the parent’s attorney Steve Shapiro. “It’s always good news to be able to leave the police station.”
Authorities want to know why the Alonsos were avoiding them during their return trip to Texas. And they also want to know why Danielle left all her possessions, including her wallet at the home.
“The original intention was to drive to Vernal, that’s where they used to live,” said Shapiro. “They were going to pickup a vehicle they still owned. But then they decided to return to Texas. Danielle was asked if she wanted to return to Salt Lake to pickup her possessions but she said let’s continue. So they did.”
Detectives with the sheriff’s office plan to interview Danielle in Rockport Texas. She now has an attorney who was hired by her parents.
“We need to find out her side of the story,” said Lt. Don Hutson. “And we may be able to get to the bottom of this in the next day or two.”
