CEDAR HILLS, Utah (ABC 4 News)- A computer glitch sent rocks, water, and mud cascading down into a Utah neighborhood. It happened Saturday morning at Canyon Road in Cedar Hills. One woman's yard was covered in debris.
Townhomes on the eastern bench were hit the hardest; Sheri Davis is still trying to dig out. Officials in Cedar Hills say a computer that monitors a holding tank malfunctioned.
That released tens of thousands of gallons of water. Davis said,” Basically about 7000 gallons of water per minute were coming down the mountain and it came through our yard.”
It happened in the same neighborhood where a mudslide occurred in 2005. Mud pushing hard into the foundation of some townhomes chased four families away. The families never returned and the townhomes were later demolished. Davis said,” I hope it doesn't happen again that would not be good. But, the fact that my house is right in the way, it is something to be concerned about I think.”
The city says they're working on cleaning up the debris. Most of the water stayed in a flood channel built by the city. Davis says the worst part is she never heard the water coming. Davis said,” I think that's the scary part because not to know something's happening, that's big.” The glitch may have been caused by a brief electrical storm late Friday night.
