Cedar Hills council has change of heart
CEDAR HILLS UTAH (ABC4 News) – The city council has had a change of heart
After rejecting the idea of a bike path along Harvey Boulevard, the council plans to revisit the issue.
The bike path disappeared this summer after the street was repaved.
Last month city leaders told ABC4 News the bike lanes don't promote safety.
But parents disagreed.
"Just the other day, kid was losing track where they were supposed to be and I had to stop and they almost hit me,” said Kathleen Bush who lives in the neighborhood. “The kids need some kind of a line so that they know where they need to be.”
After ABC4 News ran several stories about the bike path, the city council now is willing to take up the issue again.
"We've gotten a lot of feedback and we're encouraging the staff and traffic committee, residents to bring information so we can review it in the meeting and result in safest option,” said Jim Perry, a council member.
Another council member who recommended against a bike path said he welcomes community input.
"Nobody is 100% right all the time,” said Ken Kirk. “I'm willing to listen to the public to investigate it further.”
But their biggest concern is whether bike lanes will send kids further out into the road when cars block the path.
The Mayor said if there is enough demand, they will re-paint the lines. Tuesday night the city announced that they have painted the line and kids will now have a safer bike ride to school.
