NORTH OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Friends and family of Garrett Barker and Kelsey Halterman gathered in North Ogden Sunday night to remember the young couple taken too soon in a deadly crash.

The only thing Garrett Barker loved more than his dogs was his fiancée Kelsey and their soon-to-be baby girl. Saturday morning the couple was driving on the 215 ramp towards North Salt Lake when they hit a patch of ice.

Garrett’s cousin C.J. Christiansen told ABC 4 News, "He lost control of the truck going around the corner and they both, and five of their dogs, went over the guardrail on the overpass."

Garrett died instantly, Kelsey and their baby died later at the hospital

Sunday night their friends and family gathered to light candles, give hugs and share stories about the about the young couple.

Nic Hadley said of Garrett, "There’s not much to say, but the perfect kid, he was always nice, never mad, and never mean."

Garrett’s adoptive mother Marjan Barker said, "We were so proud of them. They both had their heads on straight. They knew what they wanted and they were going forward with their lives."

Going forward together; ready to start a new family and rarely apart.

Barker said, "That morning his birth mom was saying that 'why don't you just let Kel stay home and rest?' and he said 'No I want her to be with me' and they both went to work together."

That was the last time anyone would see Garrett and Kelsey alive. The only comfort the family has now is knowing they're still together.

“It would be sad if someone was left behind,” said Barker. “I think they're much happier being together."

We pray for the family and friends of the couple that lost their lives. I am fairly certain they didn't know this was going to be the last day of their life DO YOU?? We had an 18 year old son that died in a very “UNUSUAL WAY”. The day he died he was all excited about getting to his cross country running class to test out his new shoes he was given free the night before. See NEWS VIDEO COVERAGE at http://allneedChrist.com. Our son was an AP calculus student in high school, cross country runner that ran 40 plus miles a week since the age of 8. When he died an autopsy was done and no drugs or alcohol were in his system.
