WEST VALLEY Utah (ABC 4 News) - A mother and her young son are on the run after holding up a local smoke shop.

"He was between the ages of ten to twelve years old," says Sgt. Mike Powell.

The incident happened a week ago at the Smokes 4 Less business the sells cigarettes to the public.

Police obtained the surveillance video that captured the crime.

The video clearly shows the woman and the young boy standing at the counter.

"The boy hands the clerk a note," Sgt. Powell says. "The note basically said 'give me the money."

The video then shows the woman pulling out a gun and "aggressively" pointing it at the store clerk.

"There is a little bit of struggle, the firearm is still aimed at the clerk and she gets some merchandise and runs out of the store," says Sgt. Powell.

As the woman grabs the merchandise, the video shows her turning and running and the boy is left at the counter. But the boy realizes she's gone and he takes off as well.

Police believe the woman was the boy's mother.

"There were some references between the woman and the young juvenile referencing 'mom,'" Powell says.

Police say the pair left in an SUV possible a Dodge Durango.

The woman is described to be in her late twenties, white or Hispanic.
