BLUFFDALE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A recount was conducted for Bluffdale City’s mayoral race today but the results remained the same, says Salt Lake County’s Clerk Office.
Third place candidate Bruce Kartchner made a request for a recount after official election results showed that candidate Derk Timothy gained his second place status by six votes says the Clerk’s Office.
Mayoral candidates and the Bluffdale City Recorder assembled today to observe while county election employees recounted the ballots and conducted random audits of the voter verifiable paper trail against electronic voting records. However the Clerk’s Office stated that the recounted results remained the same.
State law says that a candidate may request a recount within three days of election results that have been certified by the board of canvassers. The request can only be made if the candidate loses by no more than one vote per voting precinct.
