SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say a 74-year-old Rhode Island skier died after stumbling off a cliff at Solitude Ski Resort near Salt Lake City.
The accident happened Jan. 31.
Unified Police Department spokesman Justin Hoyal says Wednesday that David R. Reid was on a double black-diamond slope called the Milk Run.
Reid stumbled over a long stretch of boulders before falling more than 20 feet off a cliff. He was not wearing a safety helmet.
Hoyal says Reid was found dead about two hours later by other skiers. Paramedics could not revive him.
Reid is from Bradford, R.I., and was spending the day with five friends but took off on his own to ski more difficult terrain.
Solitude spokesman Nick Como says the resort extends its condolences to the skier's family.
