SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Tuesday began with Jim Matheson leading Republican Mia Love by more than 2,600 votes in Utah's new 4th Congressional District.
But it didn't end that way.
When the four 4th District counties released their final vote totals Tuesday,
Matheson's lead had shrunk to only 768 votes.
Remember, this is out of more than 200,000 ballots that were cast.
After the news of his "landslide" had been made public, Matheson told ABC 4
News that he is honored to be the 4th District's new congressman and that he always knew the race would be close.
But ABC 4 also contacted Thomas Wright, the powerful chairman of Utah's Republican Party.
Wright told us he still has some questions he wants answered.
Specifically, how many absentee ballots were disqualified and why where they
disqualified?
Wright indicated he wouldn't be satisfied with Tuesday's outcome until these
questions had been answered.
The state of Utah is expected to formally certify all election results next week.
