SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – As part of the ABC News challenge, ABC4 is featuring Utah companies keeping jobs and money in America. If we each spend just $64 this Holiday season on American made products, we can create 200,000 new jobs.

Two Utah companies say made in America is so important, not just because of the boost to our local economy but the quality they produce compared to the potentially cheaper alternative.

Jeff Cohen from Intermountain Furniture Company took ABC4 around his production facility with his friend Scott. He said his business has changed during the years, “back then they didn't have staple guns. They put tacks in their mouth, grab them with the back of the hammer and tack like that.”

Intermountain Furniture has evolved since it started in the 20s. With the change of technology has come a change in the competition. Intermountain is building furniture to compete with a cheaper alternative from outside the country, but they say their product is superior.

Cohen said, “When you buy it for us - you know it’s made here and you know what's in it.”

That’s the same message from Sansegal, they make shirts for practically anyone. But their product is different, it’s green.

Charlynn Thoman from Sansegal told ABC4 about their Green Line, “100% recycled eco friendly line of apparel made here in the US.”

Basically Sansegal takes scraps from clothing production around the country and turns it into fabric for the “green” shirts.

Thoman said, “It’s important for consumers to understand where there clothing is made. If we take the time to educate and learn we can spend that extra dollar on American made products and make jobs here and around the nation.”

That’s an extra bonus! The product you are buying is superior and you are helping Utah and American families.

Cohen said, “It’s just a ripple effect, it goes down all the way.”
