BRIGHAM CITY (ABC 4 News) – For the second night in a row the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is receiving national media attention. Thursday, the LDS Church is busy holding an open house for its new temple in Brigham City, meanwhile a report airing on ABC World News showed viewers across the country what goes on inside LDS Temples.

A rare look inside LDS temples Thursday was something everyone in America got to see.

“You’re now looking at where the faithful stand,” said ABC Correspondent Dan Harris.

The temple played a prominent role in the second installment of a two part series that’s been running on World News with Diane Sawyer. ABC interviewed two LDS Apostles and briefly discussed who’s allowed inside, the sacred underwear they wear, and why Mormons marry inside of temples.

“Have you seen this report?” asked ABC 4 Reporter Brian Carlson.

Thursday Brian Carlson approached people getting their first look inside the new temple yet to be dedicated in Brigham City. He showed the report to them.

“Do you think it’s fair?” Carlson asked.

“I think it was fair,” said John Becker, temple visitor.

“Um I don’t know,” said Judith Wood, temple visitor.

“I don’t think it was inaccurate,” said Ben Prall, temple visitor.

“Yah, I think it was fair,” said Will Hagen, temple visitor.

“Do you think it makes the temple look weird?” Carlson asked.

“Slightly,” said Hagen.

“I don’t think it made them look weird,” said Becker.

Although some thought the report put the church in a good light, others think it missed the mark.

“It was very negative,” said Margaret Harris, temple visitor.

“They tend to focus not on the reason why it’s done, but what is done,” said Jan Ashdown.

But almost everyone thought just putting temples on TV was a good thing.

“If you don’t know anything about Mormon temples, it gives you a brief overview,” said Andrea Ashdown.

“I like the fact that people can finally find out what Mormons are like and what they do,” said Becker.

For anyone to attend the temple it is required to live your life in accordance with the gospel, this does include paying tithes, this is not done so that the church can get richer living as we do teaches us and prepares us to be able to draw closer to our Savior. When we live the gospel principles we are better able to be taught by the spirit the things we need to learn. By obedience to the commandments we gain blessings from our Heavenly Father. No one is forced to do anything in the church, it is a choice. You do the same thing as a parent when you raise your children. When they listen to you, follow your counsel and instruction they gain your praise, maybe a reward (could be like a blessing) and they grow closer to us and become happy strong adults. When a child is disobedient, rebelous and difficult they usually are not happy and they do not gain any "blessings" from us...true we still love them but we don't reward bad behavior because we know that the child will not learn or grow from that but instead would just continue the bad behavior and even get worse. So, why would it be any different with our Heavenly Father...when we live good righteous lives and follow his teachings and we are blessed and we can grow and learn from him because we are more prepared to listen to the spirit and what it has to tell us. We choose how we live our life...we are not forced into anything.

One of the questionable issues concerning Temple activities is that you have to pay a full tithe to attend the temple ------ I can't recall this was a policy in the New or Old Testament or Book of Mormon or even in Joseph Smith's time. I wonder what other pollution of doctine has occurred to ensure the church makes money by making sure the sheep believe that exhaltation has to be purchased ----- the poor Zoramites were treated like this in the BoM! At least it shows the Profits learned something from the BoM!
