OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A chihuahua named Hope has passed away just weeks after suffering burns to 25% of her body. Hope was found burning at a campsite in Weber County.

A good samaritan pulled the small dog from the flames and brought her to the Brookside Animal Hospital in Ogden.

True Hearts Rescue founder Nicole Hellstrom and another foster mom had been caring for the dog around the clock, trying to help her recover and find a good home.

Hope lost her battle early Wednesday morning. Her doctors believe she died from the immense pain.

True Hearts Rescue is raising money to help Weber County deputies find the people responsible for Hope's injuries and untimely death. If you would like to donate, click here.

I saw this last night...I don't that I have cried more tears than in the last few months of being involved with all of these animals through the rescues. It really brings to light...both the cruelty of humans towards animals and the overwhelming love and dedication of others. I would like to believe that the good outweighs the bad...but, that is hard to accept when you walk through the shelters and see all of the unclaimed pets that have been mistreated, not spayed/neutered and abandoned. One look at the classifieds with hundred of kittens either for sale or for free, or the hundreds of little faces peering back at you through cages in the shelter...this is not how a life is meant to be spent...they should be running around, playing and getting use to this big old world and all it (is supposed) has to offer. And, most of all the love and security that their human has to give them, not someone coming to put food in their cage and change out their litter box. My animals (furbabies) are spoiled and loved and honestly are probably kissed more daily than my own children (one because my kids are getting to big to do that constantly and two they irritate me less). They provide unconditional love and acceptance and can make a really bad day ok...because they make me forget my problems (at least for a little while) with their crazy antics and wet kisses. Humans need to look at their animals with different eyes and see them for what they really are...four legged, furry, giant hearted souls (no matter how small or large the outside package). Give them love and they will multiply it a thousand times...what other human being would ever give that much back. I know my husband loves me...but, he doesn't jump up and down and cover me with kisses everytime I walk through the door...even if was only gone 30 seconds to go throw the garbage out. I cannot imagine a world without "pets"...it would be an ugly place without any sort of refuge in my opinion.

Good Evening. I understand someone investigating this story was looking for "Cheryl". Well, that would be me. Hope has been living with me since the release from the hospital, and will continue to do so as long as she needs me. If you would like to talk to me you can find me on FaceBook as Cheryl Finn Harres".

Who could be so cruel to do such a thing to an innocent animal like this? I am sickened by those people who did this and by those who just stood around and watched.
