SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The biggest parade of the summer, is about a week away. But you don't have to wait until July 24th to see the floats in the Days of '47 Parade.
Monday and Tuesday most of the floats are on display at the South Towne Expo Center.
There is quite a bit of glitter and thousands of hours of work that go into each float that will meander through the parade next week.
The work is why the Preview Party is so important. Tom Colligan, who plans the party, told ABC4 the reason the preview is so important, "As a float goes by you, you miss all the detail. But when you look at it up close you can see all the hard work."
For most of the float design committees, they are new to float making and really didn't know where to start. That is where David Breitenbeker from Innovative Design Concepts comes in.
He has been working on floats for the days of 47 parade for 30 plus years and while he makes his own floats, he also helps to teach all those new to the art.
Breitenbeker said, "Over a six month period we teach them class, how to glitter, how to do work with the paper."
The Preview Party happens Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. at the South Towne Expo Center.
