SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Salt Lake County Animal Services is holding an emergency cat adoption event, due to an exceptionally large number of cats in their care.
SL County says the cats need to be adopted to avoid being euthanized.
The event will be partnered by No More Homeless Pets in Utah, a program of Best Friends Animal Society.
The event will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the shelter on 511 West 3900 South.
The shelter will extend their hours; Friday 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The shelter will be offering a "pick your price" adoption fee for this event, so potential owners can take home a cat, dog (or both) and decide how much they'd like to pay.
All pets will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Animal Services says they need to adopt at least 100 animals during the course of the weekend to make space and alleviate the pressure on the shelter.
Salt Lake County Animal Services claims they have not euthanized cats for lack of space since 2009.
Animal Services said they currently have more than 65 kittens available for adoption, in addition to all of their adult cats.
