SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - An early morning fire destroyed a vacant apartment complex recently purchased by Volunteers of America.

Salt Lake City Fire crews were called to the Camelot Inn at 556 south 500 east around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.  When they arrived, firefighters say they found heavy smoke and flames shooting from the three-story building.

Crews quickly called out a three-alarm assignment and investigators say at least 40 firefighters were working to put out the blaze.

A representative from Volunteers of America tells ABC 4 News the group was renovating the complex and planned to use the building as a transitional home for young men.

No one was injured and investigators are still trying to determine a cause.

Kathy Bray, the CEO of Volunteers of America in Utah, tells ABC 4 that the home is insured, although, fundraising continues for the remodel.  If you'd like to make a donation towards the project CLICK HERE.
