SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - What's going around your neighborhood? We're checking with area doctors along the Wasatch Front, every week, to see what ailments are affecting your children.

Here in Salt Lake City Dr. Tom Metcalf with Wasatch Pediatrics says he is seeing a lot of cases of bronchiolitis and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. Both of which affect the lungs.

He is also seeing a rise in the number of sore throats, saying about half of them are testing positive for strep.

In South Jordan Dr. Zak Zarbock with Families First Pediatrics says injuries are up. Everything from bicycle to trampoline accidents, to children falling out of carts are is up. All can result in scrapes, bruises and sometimes even fractures.

He says you can protect your children by always buckling them up and making sure they wear a helmet.

In Layton Dr. Shauna Gagner with Intermountain Kids Care says she is seeing a lot of viral gastroenteritis causing vomiting and diarrhea. She suggests keeping children hydrated. Layton is also seeing quite a bit of strep throat.

We'll check back next week to see what's going around.
